Hello!
I wanted to bid each family a wonderful Memorial Day weekend! Also, there was a flier that was supposed to go home today announcing that their is a fundraiser for Helmers at the Lazy Dog Cafe located a Valencia Town Center on Tuesday, May 29th, from 11am till Midnight. I'll pass them out on Tuesday, or you can open the attachment on the email version of this post. Helmers gets 15% of each bill (if you bring the flyer which I am attaching). I hope to see you there!
Sincerely,
Mr. McElroy
Hello!
Students are invited to audition for parts in the 5th Grade play "13 Colonies". Homework if for students to prepare for the auditions. Students can also do research on the weather phenomenon their desk group has chosen. The class seems excited/motivated by each of these projects.

Hello!
The students homework for this week is to research a project that is due Wednesday May 30. Each table group has selected a severe weather phenomenon to tell the class about. They can do a sketch, make a news report, do a report of information, a Powerpoint (it they put it together at home and bring it on a flash drive), or any combination there of. They can do drawings and/or write scripts to add to the group's presentation. The class seemed engaged and enthusiastic about working on this project in class.

Hello!
-Just a reminder that this is a "no homework"time, but bear in mind that Toastmaster speeches are due next week (Monday for people who wish to possibly represent Room 33; later in the week for the rest) Students continue to shine during the tests, concentrating and working earnestly. One more day to go!
Warm weather is upon us. Please send a water bottle (not frozen) for your child to use throughout the day and during PE in the afternoon. Sunblock is advisable, too.
Attendance has been up during testing. Thanks!

Hello!
I just wanted to mention how nice it was to receive birthday cards, well-wishes, and/or gift cards for my birthday yesterday. Mrs. Alavazo also put up a lovely banner on which the students collaborated, inciting more calls of "happy birthday" from students in other classes. It made for a great day. Thanks!
Tonight is the Helmers Family Fun Run at Valencia High. It is scheduled to go from 5:30-7:00. We would love for you to come out. I am planning to be there, barring unforeseen circumstances.
Thanks to the class for concentrating so well on CST Testing!
I sent home Chapter 11 math tests yesterday. If your child did not do wonderfully, I will give them a chance to improve scores on Monday. (Perimeter, volume and surface area)

Hello!
The youngest students at Helmers received a notice from the office today, informing families that there would be no homework for this week and next week. It also says for you to look out for the \site Council Parent Survey which will be coming to you via email (through the PTA and/or our classroom representative).
The class did a great job testing, concentrating on neatness as well as keeping quiet while others were working on their tests. Thanks, kids!!
-Mr. McElroy
Hello!
Tomorrow starts the CST testing (reading). We at Helmers would like your help in setting your children up for success by getting them to bed about 30 minutes early and feeding them a slightly larger than usual breakfast. Thanks!
Toastmasters
After asking students what their topic is, many did not have an answer. The first assignment (due tomorrow) is for students to tell me their topics. I will give them the outline forms tomorrow to help them get started.
Thanks to all for a spectacular Teacher Appreciation Week! The student notes/letters were sweet and I really appreciate the gift cards. A special thanks goes out to Mrs. Alavazo for her organization and dedication, too!
Sincerely,
Mr. McElroy
